Henry County Woman Charged With Operating a Puppy Mill
Deputies said Kidd is suspected of running an illegal puppy mill for the second time in two years. In 2011, 30 dogs were taken from her property as well. Five more dogs will be rescued from her residence in the next week bringing the total to 37 this year alone.
Dog breeding operations under scrutiny
She said dogs at some facilities are in cages that are outside all year around, exposing the animals to the extremes of Iowa’s winters and summers.
Purchasing a puppy also brings responsibility
Dogs used for breeding at the mills may spend their entire lives in cramped cages with little or no personal attention, and consumers who buy the puppies from pet stores or over the Internet are supporting a harmful industry.
Sign the pledge not to buy anything from stores that sell puppies.

I refuse to walk in the door of pet stores selling puppies. There is one in plaza where my grocery is.
I will drive another 5 miles to PetSmart
It just sickens me to know that there are sweet, lovable little dogs out there, "living" out their existences in cramped, inhumane cages who don't even know what the grass feels like under their paws. And when they do get a taste of freedom, they just huddle against the wall with their heads down, unable to move, because they are so terrified of what might happen to them. Makes me sick, and extremely angry. There is just no excuse as to why people would do this to a dog.
My wife and I just adopted our third "rescue dog", and we are coping with just trying to get her to the point to where she can live without fear of something bad happening to her at any moment. The day she actually comes to me for affection, I will probably break down and cry. Until then, I will reserve my tears and instead focus on the anger I have for people who do this and perpetuate this kind of treatment of animals. I can only hope she sees us as actually trying to help after 3 years of God knows what has been done to her. I don't think the punishment is nearly harsh enough for people who run puppy mills. It just breaks my heart.
